'I do not want to join Benfica' - Real Madrid's Royston Drenthe

The Dutchman has declared he has no interest in linking up with the Portuguese club and stated he was poorly informed he would not be part of the squad's pre-season camp.

Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe has ruled out a move to Benfica, while he criticised his club's handling of his situation.

The Netherlands international has been strongly linked with a switch to Benfica as the Portuguese club look for a successor to Fabio Coentrao on the left side of defence.

Reports in Spain on Monday indicated Drenthe was one step away from joining the Portuguese side after the two clubs had concurred on a €4 million transfer.

Drenthe's agent Sigi Lens stated last month that the Dutchman would be open to a move to Benfica, but the player himself has now declared that such move is out of the equation.

"I am not going to Benfica. I do not want to go there," he told Cadena Cope.

The ex-Feyenoord man, who spent the 2010-11 campaign on loan at Hercules, did not fly with the rest of the Real Madrid squad to their pre-season camp in the United States, and he has now voiced his dissatisfaction with the way he learned about the decision. Real Madrid
